The Aswan High Dam

Egypt is famous for one of the greatest engineering works it is the Aswan Dam, it is a very important architectural and historical achievement for the history of the country, it is the more modern and largest of the two dams that were built on the Nile, at the height of the first there are small sequences of waterfalls. The Dam takes its name from the nearby city of Aswan, which is about 17 km away.

The Aswan High Dam is one of Egypt’s most famous constructions, after the more ancient pyramids of Giza. Its construction made it possible to regulate the flooding of the Nile River, strengthening the previously built barriers.

The construction of the big dam started in 1952, after the Nasser revolution.

The dam has 12 power generators each of 175 megawatts and produces more than 2 gigawatts of power. It also manages to generate more than half of the electricity needed by Egypt and in the 1970s it allowed almost all Egyptians to have an electricity connection for the first time.

Philae Temple This temple dedicated to the goddess Isis, which was flooded by the waters of the Nile, is considered the temple of love and was divided and reassembled in a new location on the island of Egilika, about 500 meters from its original location on the island of Philae. Its buildings include the Temple of Hathor, and the visitor can watch the sound and light show at night, which is presented in several languages.

It is located on a small island, and can only be reached by boat, as it is surrounded by water on all sides.

Aswan was the place where many of the monuments that have come down to us today from ancient Egypt were created. It is considered A piece of stone 41 meters long and four meters wide that was probably abandoned due to a crack in the rock (doh!) and now lies abandoned in the same quarry where it was left thousands of years ago.

You can easily walk to the area where the obelisk is located, Northern Quarry, from the city center of Aswan. It is just east of the Fatimid cemetery and the Nubian Museum. where you can take lots of photos.
